Don't Let the Bedbugs Bite - Dealing with Bedbugs in Condos

Dealing with bedbugs might become even more difficult for Toronto condo corporations, after the loss of $1.2 million in dedicated provincial funding for bedbug control. This funding had previously been used by Toronto Public Health to clean the units of vulnerable clients (persons with addictions, cognitive or physical disabilities, those living in poverty, and seniors).  Without this funding, in multi-use buildings, there may be migration of the infestation into surrounding units, which could lead to an even greater presence of bedbugs in Ontario condominium corporations.  For more information, read the Toronto Star article by clicking here

From a legal perspective, bedbugs are no different from other pests.  Their presence invokes certain responsibilities from the unit owners and from the condominium corporation.  For more information about the responsibilities of unit owners and condo corporations, and what steps condominium corporations can take to deal with uncooperative unit owners, check out my  article “Bedbug Law 101”, by clicking here.
