Many condominium corporations’ Annual General Meetings run very smoothly, according to script, and are completed quite successfully in less than an hour. Then, there are other Annual General Meetings which are a potential powder keg, such as when unit owners may be up in arms about a special assessment, a costly renovation or other controversial issues. The disgruntled unit owners may or may not be represented by a lawyer. In these types of meetings the one thing you can be sure of is that it is easy for the chairperson to lose control of the meeting. We have seen such meetings degenerate into name calling, loud yelling and even threats of violence.
Over the years, lawyers in this firm have acted as chairperson for hundreds and hundreds of Annual General Meetings, many of which were the hotly contested types. Keeping control of a hotly contested meeting, while at the same time respecting the rules of order, fairness and civility, is both an art and a science.
The lawyers of this firm are available to assist your Condominium Corporation in chairing not just your Annual General Meetings, but any other meetings of owners, such as a requisitioned meeting.
Having Mr. Fine act as chairperson at several of our AGM's has been a wise decision. He outlines the procedures to our residents clearly and walks them through the Agenda carefully and systematically. The meetings are orderly, informative and efficient. He or a partner in his law firm now attend all our AGM's and it is a pleasure to work with Fine & Deo.

We invited Mr. Fine to chair our condominium corporation’s Annual General Meeting in April 2014. Mr. Fine chaired the meeting in the utmost calm and productive manner. Following the meeting, the Board of Directors received great feedback from owners and Property Management in regards to the controlled environment that had been witnessed by all during the AGM which was in total contrast with previous meetings. Mr. Fine’s experience and presence, coupled with some good lawyer’s humour, did get the job done. We look forward to Mr. Fine chairing future meetings.
